NAO Landscapes delivered an extensive, award-winning hard landscaping package at Smugglers Way in Wandsworth, working alongside McAleer & Rushe on a major residential regeneration development for Legal & General. The wider scheme transformed a former industrial site into a new neighbourhood, known as New Acres, comprising 554 homes across 13 buildings.

Our works brought together a wide range of hard landscaping elements to create attractive, durable and functional outdoor spaces. The package included extensive paved walkways, retaining walls, resin-bound surfaces, concrete benches, street furniture and children’s play areas, alongside the hard landscaping surrounding the development’s swimming pool. Corten steel edging, steps, handrails and integrated lighting added further detail to the finished landscape.

The swimming pool surrounds formed a distinctive part of the project, requiring careful attention to levels, interfaces and finishing details to create a cohesive setting around this important resident amenity. Across the wider development, the hard landscaping connects buildings and communal spaces, providing routes through the neighbourhood alongside places to sit, meet and play.

NAO’s package also included drainage infrastructure beneath the finished landscape. Delivering these works alongside paving, structural elements, play areas and detailed external finishes required careful sequencing and close coordination with McAleer & Rushe and the wider project team.

The completed spaces demonstrate NAO’s ability to deliver complex hard landscaping across a substantial residential development, combining the practical demands of construction with the quality and detail needed to create welcoming outdoor environments.

In 2025, Smugglers Way received a BALI National Landscape Award in the Hard Landscaping Construction (Non-Domestic), over £500K category, recognising NAO’s work on the project.
