NAO Landscapes was honoured to be selected to complete the hard and soft landscaping for the brand-new Salvation Army HQ. The new office is located next door to William Booth College which has been the site of The Salvation Army’s training programmes since 1929. The headquarters has moved 2 miles down the road from its former site in Elephant and Castle, a building that required extensive refurbishment work and had become uneconomical.
As well as being the administrative hub for the church, the new site also provides local residents with a new meeting place in ‘Cafe Hope’, situated on the ground floor. Here, there will be training and mentoring opportunities through The Salvation Army’s Employment Plus Service which supports people who have been struggling to find work.
The main contractor, Mclaren Construction began on-site in August 2021 with NAO Landscapes completing the external works in 2023. The NAO team were responsible for the hard and soft landscaping including the supply and installation of drainage, paving and kerbs, stainless steel matwell, metal edges, bollards, line marking, concrete reinforced retaining wall, trees and plants, mulch and soils. Soft landscaping ensured that the site was welcoming to enhance the charity’s benevolent ethos. Hard landscaping was functional and accommodating for all, complementing the building’s design.
