NAO Landscapes appointed by McAleer and Rushe for Smugglers Way, Wandsworth

In 2022, NAO Landscapes was appointed by McAleer and Rushe to complete the hard landscaping on their Smugglers Way, Wandsworth scheme. McAleer and Rushe were awarded the contract by financial services giant, Legal and General. The project is due to be completed in the summer of 2024 with estimated costs upwards of £500m. LGIM have at least five Build to Rent schemes in the capital, with Wandsworth being its largest residential development to date. The new build construction of 554 apartments spreads across 13 tower blocks and three podiums. It sits on the former B&Q site which as an area is undergoing rapid regeneration.

The hard landscaping works are well underway and being led by construction manager, Mihai Maier who has been with NAO Landscapes for over 5 years. The works include communal roof gardens which will provide residents with an outdoor oasis away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Across the three different podiums, there are multiple play areas featuring top-quality equipment making it an appealing place for families to reside. NAO has worked closely with its suppliers to ensure the right materials are being used for each part of the project.

Several aspects have now been handed over including one of the more recent completions, the residential pool area. Whilst NAO was not involved with the construction of the pool itself, the entire surrounding area was completed by their teams. A large deck area borders the pool with several different seating areas including bespoke, built-in wooden benches.

The team will continue working on the project well into the New Year and are delighted with the progress that has been made so far. The scheme is set to have a hugely positive impact on the area and will make a significant contribution to stemming the housing shortage in Wandsworth.
