NAO Landscapes was awarded the coveted ‘Best Newcomer’ award at the 2019 British Association of Landscape Industries awards. The associations ‘special awards’ are discretionary and selected by the adjudication panel from amongst the category award winners and vary from year to year. To view the full list of winners in 2019, please see the BALI Awards brochure.
The winning project, known as Bedford House, is a courtyard garden situated on a residential development in Balham, South London. NAO was awarded this contract in 2019 by client Oakdean Construction. The eight-storey apartment complex is close to Balham High Street and provided the NAO Landscapes team with its fair share of challenges during the garden construction. The courtyard is completely ‘landlocked’ and the building neighbours a primary school which meant access for deliveries was restricted.
The team were responsible for installing multiple surfaces including resin-bound gravel, granite paving and a rockery, all of which were completed to an incredibly high standard. In addition to that, the project features an artificial green wall, play equipment, fencing, brick retaining walls and a SUDS system. Suppliers included CED Stone Group, George Lines, International Timber, and Soils and Stone.
The judges of the BALI awards had the following comments – ‘This new BALI member has represented the association in an exemplary fashion by demonstrating the ability to work professionally in a restricted space with logistical challenges, whilst the main contractor was still on site, and deliver a beautifully constructed scheme.
Since joining the association and taking home this award in 2019, NAO Landscapes has won a further two awards at the iconic awards ceremony held in December of each year and continues to add to their trophy cabinet.
