NAO Landscapes delivered rooftop landscaping works at Angel Square in Islington, working with McLaren Construction as part of the redevelopment of this prominent London office building.

The wider project, developed by Tishman Speyer, transformed three linked buildings into a contemporary workplace, with new upper floors and roof terraces forming part of the refurbishment. NAO’s works helped bring these elevated outdoor spaces to life, creating landscaped areas where building users can step outside, meet and enjoy far-reaching views across London.

The terraces combine generous paved surfaces with extensive raised planting. A varied mix of ornamental grasses, flowering perennials and evergreen foliage introduces texture, movement and seasonal interest, softening the surrounding architecture and creating a greener setting high above the city.

Integrated timber seating and small tables provide places to pause and socialise, while the arrangement of planters creates more intimate spaces within the open terraces. Planting also extends along narrower rooftop walkways, maintaining a consistent landscape character across the different outdoor areas.

Delivering landscaping at roof level requires close coordination between paving, planters, planting and the building’s access arrangements. At Angel Square, these elements come together to create attractive and practical outdoor amenity spaces within a complex commercial redevelopment.
